bahamas golf packagesBahama Islands News, Articles and InformationThe Arcade Is Dead, Long Live the Cyber CafeI spent the past two weeks in what should have been the glorious sunshine of the Bahamas, but crap weather seemed to follow our cruise ship around. On the bright side we learned that a motorboat riding 8-foot waves makes my son vomit... repeatedly. I brought both the Playstation Portable and DS Lite with me on the trip along with a ton of games, for all of that down time when my son is napping. But I ended up spending most of my time playing New Super Mario Bros. and replaying it. I still haven't gotten to a couple of worlds. Dammit. I also spent a little time playing arcade games. How depressing is that. .What's The Deal? Week's best travel bargainsPrices were verified and available on Thursday afternoon when the Travel section went to press. However, deals sell out quickly and are not guaranteed to be available. Restrictions such as day of travel, blackout dates and advance-purchase requirements sometimes apply. .A normal July?Don't look now, but we made it through June with only one tropical storm (which, naturally, hit Florida). That's one fewer June storm than we got in 2005.At the moment, unless you're the space shuttle, the Florida skies are so humdrum that even the National Weather Service can't bother getting too excited about them. (From today's forecast discussion from the NWS Miami office: "IF YOU READ MY DISCUSSION YESTERDAY, I SHOULD JUST HAVE YOU PULL THAT ONE UP AGAIN. SOME THINGS JUST NEVER CHANGE.") So does this mean smooth sailing until Nov. 30? Don't count on it. All it means is that we're getting off to a slower pace than the freakiest hurricane season in history. All signs still appear go for a far more hectic than average season, perhaps akin to 2004 -- and remember, that spree of Charley, Frances, Ivan and Jeanne didn't start cooking until late August.
