Mike Vandermause column: What's the deal with Brewers' fans, PKs?

The Milwaukee Brewers continue their losing ways, yet fans around the state seem enthused by the team's first-half performance.

How can anyone get excited about a team that is playing sub-.500 baseball? The Brewers haven't produced a winning record in 14 years and haven't earned a postseason berth in 24 years.

The bar has been set so low for this franchise that whenever the Brewers hover around .500, it's cause for celebration. Mediocre competition in the National League is the only reason the Brewers are clinging to hope this season.

Sure, things are better than four years ago, when the Brewers finished an abysmal 50 games under .500 and 41 games out of first place. But it's still not good enough.

Ridiculous climax

The penalty-kick finish to the World Cup soccer tournament was absurd.
