The Arcade Is Dead, Long Live the Cyber Cafe

I spent the past two weeks in what should have been the glorious sunshine of the Bahamas, but crap weather seemed to follow our cruise ship around.

On the bright side we learned that a motorboat riding 8-foot waves makes my son vomit... repeatedly.

I brought both the Playstation Portable and DS Lite with me on the trip along with a ton of games, for all of that down time when my son is napping. But I ended up spending most of my time playing New Super Mario Bros. and replaying it. I still haven't gotten to a couple of worlds. Dammit.

I also spent a little time playing arcade games. How depressing is that.

Dramatic new changes at Winn Dixie

Damages from the twin hurricanes of 2004 sped up the renovation process at the Winn Dixie downtown which consumers concur is long overdue.

Ken Burns, managing director of Bahamas Supermarkets, in an interview with The Freeport News Monday admitted a make-over at the downtown location was in the works, but the major roof damage in September of 2004 did help to push the project along.

The new decor at the downtown store has taken on a dramatic new change with a Bahamian flare. Burns pointed out, however, the interior is similar to that of the Winn Dixie stores in the United States with brighter walls and less colour.

Cognizant of the dark, old look the store portrayed, the managing director said it had much to do with the paint, lighting and flooring.

DILI, June 23 (Reuters) - Thousands of demonstrators thronged East Timor's capital on Friday to support President Xanana Gusmao in his confrontation with the young nation's prime minister, who has refused the president's demand to step down.

In an impassioned speech late on Thursday after talks failed to persuade Prime Minister Mari Alkatiri to quit, the popular Gusmao had said he would resign himself if Alkatiri did not take responsibility for weeks of arson attacks and killings.

That prompted several prominent East Timor leaders to visit the president on Friday and urge him to stay in office, while 2,000 young Gusmao supporters demonstrated in front of parliament and Alkatiri's office saying the prime minister should go.

They blame Alkatiri for weeks of violence marked by the deaths of least 20 people and widespread looting.

Keira Knightley Brags About Johnny Depp Kiss Some girls have all ...

British actress Keira Knightly has managed to make most red blooded women sick with her recollection of kissing the lovely Johnny Depp.

Knightly recently filmed the second instalment of the Pirates of the Caribbean series Dead Mans Chest with Depp and her love interest in the film, Orlando Bloom.

Speaking on Entertainment Tonight, Knightly revealed she begged the films director to allow her to share a kiss with Depps character Captain Jack Sparrow.

She said to the director: "Come on, just give me one kiss, give me one kiss, please.

When she finally got her own way she described the experience saying: "It was good. Really good."

If kissing Depp wasnt enough, Knightly also kisses Bloom during the film! She does, however realise how damn lucky she is saying: "It's like, wonderful, I can have feelings for both of these very beautiful men.

WIMBLEDON REPORT

Today's matches: The women return to action today and for the fifth time in the past 25 years, the women's semifinals feature the top four seeds. Each has been No. 1, and the quartet includes the winners of the past three Grand Slam events, and the 2004 Wimbledon champion.

The two have played 19 times since 2001, with Clijsters winning 10. But Henin-Hardenne has won the past four meetings in majors, including three times in finals and in the semifinals last month at the French Open, which she went on to win. Bayer creates unique style, signature projects

When Bayer Properties LLC introduced The Summit concept to Birmingham in 1997, the idea of an open-air lifestyle center was as foreign to local residents as snowfall measured in feet.

But with the U.S. Highway 280 development's Phase IV already booming - and the company's fourth such project under construction in Bethlehem, Pa. - it's clear principal Jeffrey Bayer overlooked "innovation" when approving the company's promotional tag line, "Vision. Creativity. Agility."

Summer vacation, minus the sticker shock

My mother's relatives are having a family reunion in Puerto Rico next month. Being a typical procrastinator, I waited until the last minute, assuming my husband and I would have no problem getting a cheap fare and hotel room during the Caribbean's typical off-season.

Boy, was I wrong.

The cheapest airfare I could find online was $750 per person. And no beachfront hotel in San Juan had a room below $130, a far cry from summers past when resorts offered double-digit rates in July and August, with a free pia colada thrown in. Now I have to consider the possibility of camping out at my grandfather's house, where the guest room has one of those lumpy sofa beds with a bar that runs right across my back.

Either that, or spend the summer in my current residence of Fresno, located right in the heart of the triple-digit furnace of California's Central Valley.

Compressed natural gas should replace LPG

Some eight weeks past, in the middle of the Lenten season I wrote, what I thought at the time, would be my last missive on LNG.

I became quite excited some two weeks afterwards when my good friend and classmate of six -plus years, the Minister responsible for energy and the environment (whose portfolio does not include LNG, which apparently has been deemed to be closer akin to fish or fowl than to energy or the environment), made an announcement indicating that Government would issue a definitive statement on the matter in short order. Two weeks later the Prime Minister announced to the nation that the government had made a policy decision that it is not opposed to LNG and that LNG "can happen in the country". That was a month ago. Since then an eerie silence has prevailed.

In my prior article I touted the possibility of compressed natural gas (CNG) completely displacing propane (LPG or cooking gas if you will) for domestic and commercial cooking throughout the country, and at significant cost saving to users, once an LNG facility is established.
