Families of seaplane crash victims close to $51M settlement

MIAMI -- Relatives of the 20 passengers and crew killed in a seaplane crash off Miami Beach last year will split about $51 million in a tentative settlement of all lawsuits against Chalk's Ocean Airways stemming from the fatal flight, attorneys said Friday.

Plaintiffs' lawyers said they should be able to reach a final agreement "within the next few weeks" with the Fort Lauderdale-based airline, which flew the 58-year-old Grumman G-73T Turbo Mallard that crashed en route to Bimini, Bahamas, on Dec. 19.

Historic US presence at GB Championships

For the first time in the history of the Grand Bahama Bodybuilding and Fitness Association (GBBFA) Championships, American athletes will be on stage to strut their stuff. Albeit friendly competition with no stakes involved, it is a major step in terms of expansion and growth for the association, and the Bahamas Bodybuilding and Fitness Federation at large.

The championships, which will be held at the Outten Centre in Freeport, Grand Bahama on June 24, is expected to attract a number of Bahamians, and for the first time ever, Americans.

The American athletes will be out of the National Physique Committee (NPC) in Florida, and are expected to put a show for the spectators. According to Federation President Danny Sumner, they will add an interesting flare to the championships, which is expected to build on last month's successful Novice Championships.
