Death of Jim Rubush saddens community R-BB assistant superintendent dies after battle with cancerEditors note: Richland-Bean Blossom Community School Corp. assistant superintendent Jim Rubush died Saturday morning. Reporter Andy Graham last visited with Rubush Wednesday for this story.MARTINSVILLE Jim Rubush, 59, seemed pleased to have visitors. He would have been even happier to have taken them fishing. It was a gloriously crisp and sunny Wednesday afternoon, a cold front having chased away the customary July humidity the night before. Rubush was at home, on the shores of Lake Edgewood in Morgan County, rather than at his Richland-Bean Blossom Community School Corp. office. "I remembered some Spanish from my high school days and enjoyed the class so much that I wanted to learn more."Gene said he did extensive research on the Internet before deciding on his destination."I traveled to a foreign country of which I knew absolutely nothing and had read little about," he said, "but I lived a lifetime during those three weeks, and it has certainly broadened my horizons."Gene studied Spanish in a well-known Spanish language academy in the ancient city of Antigua, where he experienced total immersion in the language and Mayan culture.Federal Court Blocks Navy's Use of High-Intensity Sonar Use near ...(July 3, 2006) --Two years ago today, Kauai's residents and visitors were astonished by the strange sight of hundreds of melon headed whales in Hanalei Bay, later it was confirmed that the biannual RIMPAC excercise had been testing loud underwater sonar in the war games.Yesterday, Bill Walker, former Coast Guard sonar technician joined others along Kaumuali‘i Highway to protest the use of sonar in the biannual RIMPAC exercises taking place off Hawaiian shores this month. The Kauai resdient carried an American flag outside the Pacific Missile Range Facility's Independence Day celebration last night. Scientific data gathered over the world in the past decade shows this type of sonar has been directly associated with repeated occurrences of mass strandings and deaths of whales, dolphins, and other marine species in U.S.
