Wireless Customers, Including Those From Cingular and Other Carriers, Can Now Use Their Personal Cell Phones on

Cruising is oft-cited as the idyllic vacation choice for complete relaxation and escape. The lifestyle of today's consumer, however, often means that to truly relax and enjoy, people want an easy and convenient way to keep in touch with family, friends, or the office. What could be easier than using your own cell phone aboard ship the same as you can at home?

Through an exclusive agreement between Carnival Cruise Lines and Wireless Maritime Services (WMS), a joint venture of Cingular Wireless and Maritime Telecommunications Network, Carnival guests sailing aboard the "Fun Ships" can now enjoy a new communications option that allows them to stay in touch with people back home using their personal cell phones while in port or at sea.

"Consumers view cell phones as a necessity in today's world.

Softball team needs cash for tourney

One Coachella Valley softball team's hard work is about to pay off - big time.

The DC Ballerz, made up of 12 girls from all over the valley - three from Cathedral City - will compete in the 14 and under Triple Crown Girl's Fastpitch B Division World Series softball tournament July 25-29 in Park City, Utah.

"I never got to be in a championship game before in another state," said Nicole Scott, 13, of Cathedral City. "We'll experience new teams that we haven't played before. It's a once-in-a-lifetime thing."

Alexxa Sanabria, 14, of Cathedral City, is relieved. "We played all those games and we finally got it," Sanabria said. "It seems easier now. We don't have to win to go to it anymore. We're already there."

But for Karina Romero, 13, of Cathedral City, who competed in the World Series two years ago with a baseball team, this opportunity will be a first.

Flight risk: Kim Taylor makes love of travel her business

The fact that she was born in the Bahamas and lived there for the first six years of her life influences her vision. So does her love of warm tranquil breezes, turquoise seas and slow sunsets.

"The islands are in my blood," Taylor said. "The Bahamas are still in my soul."

But there's another side to Kim Taylor; a thrill-seeking side that has enticed her to bungee-jump at Victoria Falls and ski down a glacier in Austria.

Taylor's deep love of travel gives her the chance to indulge and explore the contrasting sides of her nature, and as the owner of Admiral Travel Gallery on Main Street in Lakewood Ranch, her passion for travel helps her make a living.

"I love being able to plan experiences for people and know that they are going to have a great time," Taylor said.

UNITED NATIONS

Occasionally at the United Nations, conflicts, crises, and debates on pressing international issues are forced to share center stage with other global events - like the World Cup.

"Before the World Cup, the place in the United Nations to meet different ambassadors was the Indonesian Lounge," a hideaway outside the General Assembly chamber, said Argentina's U.N. Ambassador Cesar Mayoral, whose country is a contender for the cup. "Now it's the set of televisions - because all the ambassadors are watching football and not watching the papers" dealing with U.N.

Molly Ivins: War debate moves farther from reality

Iraq and the media, the media and Iraq — over and over. Last week was supposed to be a good media week for Iraq — Abu Musab al-Zarqawi was dead. Taken out, we said, by a combination of American and Iraqi troops with Jordanian intelligence.

The churlish might note this was the second time the American military had announced Zarqawi’s death — but, hey, we’ve announced the capture of Osama’s No. 2 guy at least seven or eight times. Others claimed Zarqawi was never that important to begin with, indeed had been built up by our side. Still, that’s a goal for our side, as they say in World Cup play.

I’m so used to one side saying this and the other side saying the opposite that I didn’t even blink over the differences.

I did, however, come to a screeching halt over the right’s reaction to news of a triple suicide at Guantanamo.

Jack Nicklaus and Exclusive Resorts Form Alliance

Exclusive Resorts, the leader among luxury destination clubs, is further strengthening its golf amenities and services for its members through a partnership with legendary golfer, Jack Nicklaus, and the world's leading golf course design firm, Nicklaus Design. Nicklaus is working with Exclusive Resorts to elevate its current golf offerings and, through Nicklaus Design, to explore various real estate development opportunities for unique golf destinations for club members.

Responding to member surveys which consistently list golf as part of their lifestyle, Exclusive Resorts will elevate its golf program by sponsoring member events with Jack Nicklaus and incorporating golf training programs into the club through the Nicklaus Academies this year. Additionally, the two firms will explore future projects that will leverage their strengths in golf course design and luxury resort development. Combining Nicklaus Design's early stage participation in global projects and Exclusive Resorts' in-depth understanding of vacationers' recreation desires and luxury residence expertise could result in some of the world's best golf destinations.
