all inclusive bahama vacation packagesBahama Islands News, Articles and InformationTrip down aisle heads to paradiseOdds are, if you haven't already been invited to a "destination wedding," there might be one in your future. The idea was foreign to me when I got word that a nephew planned to be married this spring in St. Thomas, some 2,000 miles from the family's home base in suburban Detroit.I'll admit: I started out a skeptic. Move the entire wedding party and guests to a place far, far away? Aren't exotic locales for honeymooners? But by the time my toes dig into soft, white sand, I'm a convert. It's a couple of hours before Jim Harrington's wedding, and here is the scene: Jim and an uncle are hanging out at the beachfront reggae bar of our resort as I flip-flop up to the restaurant to check out a paddle for one of the kayaks lying nearby in the sand. No one takes any notice when an iguana saunters across my path on the way back down to the beach.

Resources to be protectedThe government has undertaken an aggressive initiative to crackdown on persons who are over fishing in Bahamian waters, in order to sustain the country's marine resources. In his 2006/07 Budget communication to Parliament on Monday, Minister of Agriculture and Marine Resources, Leslie Miller, announced changes to fishers' catch limits, as his ministry takes vital steps towards ensuring the safety and preservation of marine life. He added that foreigners who fish in Bahamian waters without permission and those who take advantage of their license, are increasingly threatening the sustainability of fishery resources. "Fishing by visitors is to be for sporting purposes, not as an opportunity to finance a vacation, sell for profit or fill the freezers at home," he said.
Joint effort to benefit allAllyson Maynard-Gibson said the Attorney-General's (AG) Office is working hand-in-hand with the police to cut back on failed trials. The Attorney-General, speaking at the 2006 Budget Debate on Thursday, said various departments in the AG's Office are meeting weekly in a bid to co-ordinate the joint effort between both agencies. "The weekly meetings...allow the legal offices at the Attorney-General's office to work more efficiently with the police," she said. " The aim of the collaboration is to ensure that the cases do not fail due to technicalities or lack of proper planning." Moreover, she explained that the AG's Office has seen court cases linger on for roughly six years before they are concluded and she and her team at the department are committed to changing the system.
