Caribbean: High or low season?

It's the middle of January, and heat-seeking bikini bombshells carpet the beach, bronzing the winter pallor from their pampered flesh. There's a special buzz in the air that grows louder as the beautiful people get amped for another night of seeing and being seen in the A-list spots. You're at ground zero of the Caribbean high season, and you wouldn't have it any other way.

Same beach in mid-July. You decompress on the flawless stretch of white sand, mellowing to the shoosh of the waves. Tonight you'll splurge on dinner, happily blowing some of the money you saved by taking your trip in low season -- and you won't even need a reservation. Tomorrow, it's the summer sales at the boutiques, then a free snorkel excursion. You won't find these kinds of perks in winter. What's not to love?

Two distinct vacations, same great Caribbean getaway.

Reality drinks

It's a Saturday night in downtown Pontiac, and the club is jumping. The evening is sponsored by a Top 40 radio station, and it's at Clutch Cargo's, one of the coolest spots in the loop. But this night is special -- as evidenced by the bright lights set up by the Fox Reality camera crews and the clubhoppers gathering outside the converted church.

They're expecting the arrival of four stars of MTV's popular reality shows, "Real World" and "Road Rules." Mark Long -- the spiked-blond-haired guy from the first "Road Rules" who got caught in a love triangle between "Real World San Diego" Robin and "Real World Chicago" Tonya -- is already here. He's the guy in front of the camera with a microphone, taping teasers for the latest installment of MTV's "Real World/Road Rules Challenge." Some fans wave in the background or jump up and down.

Exclusive: Pirates' Bill "Davy Jones" Nighy

Bill Nighy may be one of England's most underrated actors, but most people will recognize him from the dour demeanor of his characters and his distinctively dry delivery. Considering the startling appearance of his character Davy Jones in Disney's Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man's Chest, it may be the only way to recognize Nighy when he takes on that villainous role. Playing the bad guy is nothing new to Nighy, having cut his teeth with the role of the ancient vampire Viktor in the "Underworld" movies. More people may remember loving him as rock star Billy Mack in Richard Curtis' Love Actually or as Simon Pegg's zombie stepfather in Shaun of the Dead. With that kind of diverse background, it's not surprising that director Gore Verbinski thought Nighy would be the perfect actor to turn Davy Jones into the type of bad guy that fans of the first "Pirates of the Caribbean" would love.

NASSAU - Minister of Social Services and Community Development the Hon. Melanie Griffin Wednesday (June 7) pledged to continue to lead the fight to ensure that persons living with disabilities have equal opportunity to "make everyday independent living choices" as the non-disabled population.

"Independent living for persons with disabilities means having the same right to make choices as well as having the same control in their everyday lives as the non-disabled population; the right to grow up in their own families, to attend schools located within their neighbourhoods, the right to utilize the same form of public transportation, to be employed in any area for which they are qualified, as well as to marry and start families of their own if they so choose," Minister Griffin said.

Travel magazine and MOT host reception in New York

NEW YORK – Fears of piracy that fuelled a contractual dispute between the theatre and distributor may have prevented a Bahamian delegation from viewing this summer's anticipated blockbuster, Pirates of the Caribbean 2, in New York on Wednesday, but they did not put brakes on the 'Bahamian Celebration' hosted by the Ministry of Tourism and the Conde Nast Traveler at the publication's offices that night.

The Ministry and Conde Nast, who have been marketing partners for the last 19 years, threw the shindig in light of its new and innovative collaboration to promote The Islands of The Bahamas by capitalising on the 'Pirates of the Caribbean' films' fame.

Pirates of the Caribbean 2, recently premiered in California last weekend, was filmed on Grand Bahama and White Cay, Exuma.
