GB Port promotes Knowles

The Grand Bahama Port Authority, Limited (GBPA) announced yesterday the promotion of Dillon F. Knowles to the post of Vice President in the Grand Bahama Development Company, Limited (DEVCO).

Knowles' elevation comes one day after the GBPA confirmed it had made the position of one of its executives redundant.

Knowles, who joined the GBPA in 2002 as Assistant Manager of Building and Development Services, held the post of Director of Building and Development Services for a year and a half before his latest promotion.

He now has responsibility for development in DEVCO. In a release yesterday, the GBPA explained that in his new role, Knowles will have primary responsibility for projects and for the future land development of Freeport/Lucaya.

The annual Caribbean Tourism Conference to held in Bahamas

The Caribbean Tourism Organization (CTO) and the Bahamas Ministry of Tourism have chosen the Westin and Sheraton Grand Bahama Island Our Lucaya Resort on Grand Bahama Island, The Islands of The Bahamas, as the host hotel for the 29th Annual Caribbean Tourism Conference (CTC-29), taking place Oct. 20-25, 2006. The theme of this year's conference is Cooperation, Innovation, Rejuvenation. Creating a Brand New Caribbean.

For the second year in a row, conference participants will earn continuing education credits through George Washington University for attending the CTC Master Classes. Master Classes involve in-depth study of topics affecting the tourism industry using case studies and best-practices. They are designed for travel agents as well as general delegates.

Other program highlights include hotel and site inspections for travel agents, destination spotlight presentations for agents, specialized workshops, and the very popular Conde Nast Traveler "My Caribbean Essay Contest" and the Travel + Leisure "Youth Congress."

In addition, there are guided product tours for general delegates, media activities presented by the host venue and by other CTO member countries, and awards events – including the Fourth Annual Travel Writer and Photographer Awards and the Second Annual Creativity in Travel Awards for travel agents.

Alyson Rawls Dunlap of Falkville and Randall Scott Ellis of Hartselle were wed Saturday, June 17, 2006, at 4 p.m. at East Highland Baptist Church with the Rev. Danny Compton, uncle of the groom, officiating.The bride is the daughter of Tim and Nancy Dunlap of Falkville. The groom is the son of Gilmer and Joan Ellis of Hartselle.
